New York City’s YMCA, Deutsche Bank Support Puerto Rico Survivors 20 December 2017 community New Americans New York, NY – December 20, 2017 - The YMCA of Greater New York received a $100,000 grant from the Deutsche Bank to provide support to Puerto Ricans and other islanders coming to New York City in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The Y has a long established history of welcoming newcomers to the country and assisting them in their transition. Here in New York City, the YMCA’s New Americans Initiative has six New Americans Welcome Centers in the Bronx, Chinatown, Flushing, Harlem, Prospect Park, and Staten Island. Through the Centers, the Y will connect survivors of Hurricane Maria with the resources they need to rebuild their lives. This includes food, clothing, transportation, benefits, medical care, employment opportunities, language classes, legal services, and more. Deutsche Bank has been a longtime supporter of the Welcome Centers. “The Y stands firm in its commitment to welcoming all, and we are pleased to join the long list of organizations supporting the Puerto Rican community and other islanders coming here seeking stability,” said Sharon Greenberger, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater New York. “We are grateful for our longstanding partnership with Deutsche Bank, which allows us to serve communities wholeheartedly and meet emergent needs.” Alessandra Digiusto, Deutsche Bank’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility Americas, said, “Deutsche Bank is proud to be one of the first corporate supporters of the Y’s New Americans Welcome Centers, which have helped so many New Yorkers achieve economic independence and contribute their skills and values to our community. The Centers have proven adept at connecting people to the resources they need when all is lost, which is paramount to supporting Puerto Ricans arriving to NYC after being displaced by Hurricane Maria.” All six Centers noted above are ready to receive those needing help with transition.
