The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a New Americans Initiative Trainer who is responsible for supporting and training participants, leading to a ServeSafe Food Handler Certification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct participants in food handling leading to a ServeSafe Food Handler Certification.
  • Partner with primary ESOL Instructor to insure contextualized ESOL curricula is appropriate and relevant to the restaurant industry.
  • Plan and implement curricula, assessment, testing and activities that lead a minimum of 20 participants, every 10 weeks, to a ServeSafe Food Handler Certification.
  • Secure and maintain all materials necessary for instructing and proctoring ServeSafe Food Handler Certification lessons and exams.
  • Model the best practices of hospitality and positive culture.
  • Work enthusiastically as part of a team.
  • Actively participate in professional development and designated meetings as appropriate and requested.
  • Other activities and duties as needed that address the ongoing health and well-being of our staff and members.
  • Maintain sanitary habits in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • ServSafe Manager Instructor/Proctor Certification Required.
  • Food Handler Certification Required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in teaching/instructing adult students.
  • Must have knowledge of state and city food handling regulations.
  • Have taught or trained for at least one year.
  • Are in a training role at a trade school or state restaurant association.
  • Have worked in a food service operations environment for a minimum of one year.
  • Must be willing to work as part of a team and be able to establish positive relationships with participants, team members and partners.
  • Bilingual (Mandarin/Cantonese/English) required.
  • Must be able to work one morning and one evening per week from 9am - 12pm and 6pm - 9pm in Flushing, Queens.
